Planning International Shipping Costs

International shipping cost planning is an inputs problem before it is a shopping problem. If the inputs are vague, the total is theater. This independent research article lists the inputs worth collecting when you move from spreadsheet shortlist to Superbuy outbound parcel—and when to replace estimates with verified figures. It does not publish rate cards or $/kg tables, and it is not operated by Superbuy.

Superbuy currently describes agent and help processes on superbuy.com, the shopping agent guide, and help. Live postage appears in quote flows you run there—not on this page.

Separate this article from weight formula reading

Actual vs volumetric weight teaches volumetricKg = (L×W×H)/divisor and planningKg = max(actual, volumetric). This article assumes you understand that arithmetic and asks: which numbers enter a cost plan, in what order, and which stay blank until later?

Input set A — Parcel physics

  • Estimated or verified actual kg
  • Outer dimensions for the packing style you chose (packing)
  • Divisor/rule copied from the line under test
  • Planning chargeable kg per candidate line

Without Input set A, Layer D is a guess dressed as a spreadsheet cell.

Input set B — Quote-time money

From current Superbuy quote UI / official notes for that line:

  • Base postage estimate for your inputs
  • Any add-ons explicitly listed at quote time
  • Currency of the quote as shown

Type those into the Total Cost Calculator yourself. The tool does not scrape Superbuy.

Input set C — Non-shipping layers still in the landed picture

Shipping planning sits inside a wider total (costs explained):

  • Item CNY for keepers (Product IDs from the 3434-product research set)
  • Domestic-to-warehouse costs if any
  • Known service fees (including paid photos if used)
  • Storage-related fees if your timing incurs them under current rules

Do not let a beautiful shipping estimate hide an incomplete Layer A–C.

Input set D — Risk buffers (optional, explicit)

Some planners add a buffer for:

  • Weight underestimation
  • Packing style change after one more QC removal
  • Quote volatility between rehearsal and submit

Buffers should be named (“0.4 kg volumetric cushion”) rather than silently inflating a line item so you forget why the number is high.

Currency rehearsal

If you budget in USD while quotes appear in CNY (or the reverse), convert with your method. A planning divisor of 7.2 (CNY per USD style) appears in this site’s planning context sparingly—it is rehearsal scaffolding, not a payment rate and not a Superbuy rule. Prefer the conversion you will actually use when settling.

Timing of inputs across the workflow

Stage Physics Money
Shortlist Rough grams only Item CNY triage
Post-QC keepers Better mass guess Item finalized
Packing rehearsal Dimensions + planning kg Shipping placeholder
Live quote Verified/declared as required Replace placeholder
After ship — Track settlement / balance as Superbuy currently handles it

Postal questions later may use postal enquiry alongside carrier tools.

Restrictions as a cost input

An ineligible line has infinite practical cost for that parcel composition—you cannot use it. Run restrictions before you fall in love with a quote. Line frameworks: compare shipping lines.

Example input walk-through (figures illustrative only)

Suppose three keepers from finds: two apparel items and one accessory. Item CNY snapshots sum to a known figure you rechecked live. Domestic-to-warehouse costs are known from the order UI. You paid for one extra photo set—add it under service fees. Restrictions cleared for your destination on the lines you will quote.

Packing rehearsal (box-out shoes if any, compressed hoodies) yields an estimated actual kg and outer dims. For Line A you enter that line’s current divisor into the Shipping Weight Calculator, take planning kg, then capture the live quote. For Line B you repeat with B’s divisor. Place each quote into Layer D of the Total Cost Calculator alongside Layers A–C. Optionally add a named 5–10% shipping buffer if your packing may still change.

Nothing in that walk-through required a public $/kg table. It required inputs you own.

Hand-off from research to money

Product IDs from the 3434-product / 15-category catalog start the story; they do not price postage. People who paste catalog CNY into a “landed” cell and stop there skip Input sets A–B entirely. Push yourself to the packing rehearsal stage before you call a budget final.

Anti-patterns

  • Single “shipping = 100” constant reused for every haul
  • Copying a friend’s landed total without matching kg/destination/line
  • Treating catalog snapshot prices as locked
  • Ignoring volumetric after a box-heavy pack
  • Converting currencies twice
  • Using 7.2 as if it were a Superbuy settlement rate rather than optional planning scaffolding

Minimal planning sheet columns

Product ID | keep? | item CNY | notes | pack group | actual est | dims | divisor source | planning kg | quote | buffer | total rehearsal

Fill left to right. Stop where blanks block honesty. Store the sheet in your personal tracker (vs Google Sheets) rather than expecting finds to remember your quotes.

Independence

This site’s calculators and articles help you rehearse. Superbuy invoices what Superbuy invoices under current policy. Community mythology is not an input set. After payment and dispatch, use Superbuy’s current channels—including postal enquiry when appropriate—for shipment questions.

Closing

Cost planning quality equals input quality. Gather physics, quote-time money, non-shipping layers, and optional named buffers; replace estimates when the warehouse measures the finished parcel. Weight formula details stay in S1; this page (S5) is the input ledger. Continue on the Shipping hub.
